NOTE: This policy does not apply to students who currently live in residence.
- First Year Guaranteed Residence Cancellation Policy

Students have until June 10, 2024 to cancel the residence acceptance and receive a full refund of the Residence Advance Payment (RAP). Cancellations received between June 11, 2024 and July 15, 2024 are entitled to receive a refund of $350. No refund issued for cancelations received after July 15, 2024.
If the Student Account balance is zero and you are entitled to a full/partial RAP refund, the funds will be placed back onto the card that was used to make the payment. It may take 5 – 10 business days (does not include weekends or holidays) for the funds to appear back on the card.
If fees are owing on the Student Account, the RAP refund will be placed as a payment towards those fees and will not be refunded back to the card.
Please note that if the residence/meal plan fees have been posted to your Student Account, it will take 2 – 4 business days (does not include weekends or Canadian holidays) for them to be removed after we receive your cancellation.
- First Year Non-Guaranteed and Graduate Student (new and returning) Cancellation Policy

If fees are owing on the Student Account, the RAP refund will be placed as a payment towards those fees and will not be refunded back to the card.

- Denied Visas

New/returning Carleton international students who have supporting documentation from IRCC to show their visa/study permit application is denied will be reviewed on case by case basis for a full/partial refund of the $700.
Upon review, should you be granted a full/partial RAP refund, if the Student Account balance is zero, the funds will be placed back onto the card that was used to make the payment. It may take 8 – 15 business days (does not include weekends or holidays) for the funds to appear back on the card.
If fees are owing on the Student Account, the RAP refund will be placed as a payment towards those fees and will not be refunded back to the card.

- How to Cancel

To cancel your residence application please log into the Housing Portal linked here.
Follow the instructions below:
Select “Housing Application” > Select “Academic Year 2024-2025” and click on “Continue” > Click on “Confirm and Submit” on the left menu and click “Submit” > Click on “Cancel my application”.
You will receive a confirmation email sent to your Carleton email account.
- Winter Term Room Offers - Cancellation Policy

Residence Advance Payment (RAP) is non-refundable.
If you cancel your residence before January 7, 2024 – your residence/meal plan fees will be removed from your student account within 2 – 4 business days, less the $700 RAP.
If you request a Late arrival (allowed up to January 23, 2024 only) and do not arrive or have to cancel before January 23, 2024, you will be charged for the period we held your space for you; the eligible refund of the prorated Winter 2024 residence/meal fees will be adjusted on your student account.
- Summer Residence Cancellation Policy

The $300 Residence Advance Payment (RAP) is non-refundable.
CURRENT students living in winter term residence who are staying for Early or Full Summer: If you cancel your residence before April 26, 2024 – your residence/meal plan fees will be removed from your student account within 2 – 4 business days, less the $300 RAP.
New students (not living in winter 2024 residence) moving in for Early of Full Summer: If you cancel your residence before May 4, 2024 – your residence/meal plan fees will be removed from your student account within 2 – 4 business days, less the $300 RAP.
Students joining Summer Residence for Late Summer: If you cancel your residence before June 30, 2024 – your residence/meal plan fees will be removed from your student account within 2 – 4 business days, less the $300 RAP.
