Guaranteed First-Year Students

Congratulations on receiving a guaranteed residence offer!

The guaranteed offer is for a traditional double room. Our online portal for 2024-2025 residence opened on Thursday, February 1, 2024 at 10:00 am. The deadline to accept guaranteed offers is Monday, June 10, 2024.

Please note: A guaranteed offer is only given to students entering first-year in the fall from a secondary school or CEGEP, who receive an offer of admission on or before Friday, May 17, 2024. If you are not qualified for a guaranteed offer of residence, you can still apply as a Non-Guaranteed First Year Student.

Accepting Your Guaranteed Offer

Please also review the Step by Step Guide: How Accept Guaranteed Offer of Residence.

Step 1: You must first accept your offer of admission to Carleton University and wait for your application status on Carleton360 to display “Applicant Acceptance” before you can accept your guaranteed offer of residence. There may be a delay of three or four days between the time you accept the offer of admission and are able to accept your offer of residence. Please do not wait until the last day to accept your offer of residence, as the deadline of Monday, June 10, 2024 is strict.

Step 2: Accept your guaranteed residence offer through the Housing Portal using your MyCarletonOne credentials.

Step 3: Read and accept the terms of the 2024-2025 Residence Agreement.

Step 4: Pay your non-refundable Residence Advance Payment (RAP) through the portal.

Please do not pay this to your Student Account – it will go unnoticed and will appear that you did not accept your residence offer.  The non-refundable residence advanced payment ($700) can be paid by credit card (Visa, Mastercard or American Express, any Visa/Debit* cards) or by Interac. Please note that only customers of RBC Royal Bank, TD Bank, and First Nations may use the Interac option.

Step 5: Be sure to pay the RAP, complete, and save your application by Monday, June 10, 2024 in order to be placed in a time ticket lottery for room selection.

Step 6: Check your Carleton email to ensure your residence acceptance is confirmed and for a receipt of the $700 RAP.

Note: All email correspondence will go to your Carleton email account. Please check your Carleton email account on a regular basis.

Room Selection Process
  • Students who accepted the guaranteed offer for a double traditional room by Monday, June 10, 2024, will be entered in the time ticket lottery for room selection. The time ticket lottery results will be sent to your Carleton email the week of Monday, June 10, 2024.
  • If you have submitted a request for a special accommodation, you will be advised on Tuesday, June 11, 2024 whether your request is approved. If approved, your space will be assigned and confirmed via email. If your request is not approved, you will be included in the time ticket lottery to select a room in residence.
  • The date and time on the time ticket confirms when you can first login to the Housing Portal and select your space – you will NOT have access to the room selection function until then.
  • Once the room selection opens (based on your time ticket) – it will remain open until Friday, June 28, 2024 at 11:59 p.m.
  • If you are in a roommate group – whomever has the earliest time ticket can login and select spaces for everyone in the group.
  • If a space has been selected for you by your roommate in your group but you would like to select a different space for yourself, you must leave the roommate group to access other available spaces for room selection.
  • If you choose not to select a room in residence by 11:59 p.m. on Friday, June 28, 2024, one will be assigned to you by Housing and Residence life services.

Roommate Matching

We strongly encourage roommate groups!

If you have already decided on a roommate group – you can use the search function ‘search by details’ in the Housing Portal and find your friends by their names and/or student numbers.

You can create your own roommate group, or you might receive an invitation to join a group. You have the option to accept or decline the invitation. You can leave the group at any time up until selection time.

Use the other two search functions to find potential roommates. ‘Search by profile’ or ‘suggested roommates.’ Suggested roommates is the list of students you have best matched with based on your lifestyle responses – the list will have students of ALL genders. We encourage students to use the messaging option to reach out to the potential roommate.

‘About me’: share some information about yourself – this can include the program you are in, sports, interests, genders you are comfortable sharing a room/space with etc.

Roommate Matching

Roommate matching is based on the answers provided in your residence questionnaire. Please answer these questions as accurately as possible so we can find the best possible match for you.

Some factors we take into consideration when matching roommates/suitemates are:

  • Request for all gender/single gender floors.
  • Smoking (although all residences are smoke free).
  • Answers regarding personal lifestyle.

Roommate groups are encouraged but are not mandatory. If you are not requesting a friend, you can review the list of suggested roommates based on your responses in the questionnaire.

Waitlist

Each year we receive more residence applications than the number of spaces we have available. Students on the waitlist will be offered a room if space becomes available.

The waitlist is for a residence space and not a specific building. Although we do our best to accommodate building/room preferences, should you receive an offer of residence from the waitlist, we cannot guarantee placement in all/any of your preferences. Being on the waitlist means that we currently we do not have a space to offer and your application remains active.

We will email your Carleton account once or twice a month to confirm interest in keep your application active. It is your responsibility to confirm your interest by the stated deadline.. If you do not confirm your interest, your residence application will be cancelled. You will have to reach out residence@carleton.ca to request application reinstatement.

If you do not receive a room offer by Friday, October 3, 2025, your academic year 2025-2026 application will expire. If you wish to be considered for winter term residence, you will need to re-apply.
