Student support is incredibly important to all staff working in residence.
The Department of Housing and Residence Life Services is committed to providing a variety of quality support services that enhance the student experience and allow for personal growth and academic development.
Entering university is a great transitional period in your lifetime. With this transition comes many feelings and situations you may not have encountered before.
We understand how essential it is to have a strong support system during this time, to help you be as successful as possible.
Whether you are interested in learning more about the different services offered on campus, have a specific personal situation you need help with, or are looking to explore all of the great opportunities available on campus, there are a number of resources available to you.
Residence Fellows are upper year students who live on your residence floor yearlong to provide resources and support. You will have at least one Residence Fellow living on your floor with you, and they will act as a 24/7 support system for all students living on the floor.
They connect with students throughout the year, create initiatives and learning opportunities within the floor community, and act as community leaders.
Residence Fellows are your peers. They have recently been in your position and understand what it’s like to be a new student living in residence. They will strive to help create a community that is conducive to learning, academic success, and personal growth.
Residence Students will ultimately help to guide your transition into the residence and university life.
In addition to our Residence Fellows, we have five full time professional staff members who provide support to students in their respective buildings. They supervise Residence Fellows, as well as act as an additional resource for you. They strive to promote a positive community atmosphere within your building. Residence Managers are on a rotating 24/7 on-call schedule, in order to provide students like you with constant support.
A great feature about Carleton Residence is that they have a counselling service provided solely to residence students. This means significantly shorter wait times for appointments, and the potential to form more personal connections with the three Residence Counselors. These three trained professionals provide short-term, confidential counselling for students to help them manage a variety of mental/emotional changes and to promote healthy living. Residence Counselling offers scheduled as well as same day appointments.
Mental Wellness Mentors
An additional group of individuals who provide support and that work closely with the Residence Counselling services is our Mental Wellness Mentors. Mental Wellness Mentors are part of a peer-based mentorship program that is available to all students who are living in residence. In this program you will be paired up with an upper-year student who will act as your mentor throughout the school year. They will provide one-one-one support, focusing on goal building and strategy creation to help you with the transition into university and resid
