Summer Residence Applications for 2024 will open after 10:00 am on February 29, 2024.
Are you a current Carleton student looking to live on campus throughout the summer? We offer long-term summer residence! Please read the information below in full prior to submitting your application.
The deadline to apply is at 11:59 pm on March 29. Applications received after the deadline will be considered in chronological order of receipt.
Construction Summer 2024 – Affecting Leeds House (planned for Summer Residence 2024)
Due to the construction of the new student residence, the walkway and tunnel access to Leeds House may be affected between May 7 and June 28, 2024. During this time, those living in Leeds House may be required to take alternate routes to get to the rest of campus. Further updates will be shared closer to these dates.
- Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible to apply to Summer Residence, it is required to be either a current Carleton student for the summer and have completed one academic term prior to the start of May 2024 or have been admitted to the University for the start of Summer 2024.
Students who have previously lived in residence must be in good standing within the residence community.
Priority is given to students who are registered in courses, in a co-op related to their program, or here for academic purposes.
Fees for 2023/2024 fall and winter term fees are required to be paid by April 25, 2024 in order to be eligible to live in Summer Residence. If your Student Account does not have a zero balance by April 25, 2024, and you have received and accepted a summer room offer, your room offer will be revoked, and the $300 RAP refunded.

Summer Student Residence Information
Students will be accommodated in single rooms in shared suites. Suites include one or two full bathrooms, full kitchenette with fridge and microwave, dining area, Wi-Fi and air conditioning.
- Should you receive and accept a room offer, a non-refundable $300.00 Residence Advance Payment (RAP) is required to reserve your space. The RAP will be applied to your student account to act as a payment to your residence fees shortly after the fees are posted.
- Students may opt into purchasing a meal plan, or choose to make their own meals.
- Students are required to provide their own bed linens for a standard double mattress, towels, and amenities. Click here for more information about what to bring/what not to bring.
- Length of Stay Options and Fees

The minimum length of stay is determined by the session you choose for the summer. You are responsible for residence fees associated with the session even if you choose to leave prior to the end of the session. Short term accommodation is not available.
- Early Summer Session 2024 – May 5 to June 28 – $1,944
- Late Summer Session 2024 – July 2 to August 24 – $1,944
- Full Summer 2024 – May 5 to August 24 – $3,996
- Students who have a confirmed room for Early/Full Summer who currently living in residence until April 26, 2024 have the option to select to stay in their current room from April 26, 2024 – May 5, 2024 for an addition fee of $324. Those who opt out of accommodation from April 26 – May 5, 2024 must vacate their winter room no later than 12:00 pm noon on April 26, 2024.
- The Full and Late summer residence fees cover up to the night of August 23, 2024, students who have confirmed residence for the fall who have opted in to staying through to move in weekend will pay an additional stayover fee from August 24, 2024 – August 30, 2024 of $216. If you are on a summer meal plan, the fee covers to August 24, 2024. The caf is available on pay as you go from August 25 – August 30.
There are additional fees if you choose to opt for a meal plan.

The last meal for academic residence is breakfast on April 26, 2024 from 7:30 am to 10:30 am. The summer meal plan will start with breakfast on May 6, 2024.
Please note that the meal plans offered through fall/winter are NOT available for the summer.
The only option for a summer meal plan consists of 14 meals per week. All meals are served in the caf.
Summer 2024 meal plan fees:
- Early Summer Session 2024 – May 6 to June 28 – $1,544.94
- Late Summer Session 2024 – July 1 to August 24 – $1,544.94
- Full Summer 2024 – May 6 to August 24 – $3,175.71
You may use one meal per meal period up to 3 meals per day until all 14 meals are used.
Walk in Rates:
- Breakfast – $11.63 + Tax
- Lunch – $14.40 + Tax
- Dinner – $16.54 + Tax
Important Meal Plan Deadlines:
- May 13, 2024 – Deadline to remove early / full summer meal plan.
- July 8, 2024 – Deadline to remove full / late summer meal plan.
- August 24, 2024 – Last day for the Summer meal plan.
The meal plan fee covers to breakfast on August 24, 2024. The caf is available on pay as you go from August 25 – August 30.

- February 29, 2024 – 10:00 am ET – Summer Residence Application for active Carleton University students opens.
- End of March, 2024 – Summer Residence room offers will be sent to the Carleton email account.
- March 29, 2024 – Deadline to apply to summer residence for current residence students who wish to remain in residence after the last day of academic residence (April 26. 2024) and live in summer residence for early/full summer.
- April 25, 2024 – All summer fees including tuition and residence/meal plan are due. All Fall 2023/Winter 2024 fees must be paid in order to retain a summer room.
- April 26, 2024 – 12:00 pm noon ET – Last day of academic residence. For current residence students: if you receive and accept a summer residence offer, your summer term residence will begin the night of April 26 unless you have already vacated your academic room and intend to move in on May 5.
- April 26, 2024 – The last meal for academic residence is breakfast at 7:30 am to 10:30am ET.
- May 5, 2024 – 9:00 am – 9:00 pm ET – Current residence students may begin to move to their summer room (this date is not flexible) and must be moved no later than 9:00 pm this evening. New summer residence students who are here for full and early summer sessions may start checking in.
- May 6, 2024 – 9:00 am ET – Facilities staff will enter current students winter term rooms to clean and sanitize.
- May 6, 2024 – Summer meal plan begins at breakfast. No meals are available between the last meal on April 26 through to May 5.
- May 6, 2024 – First day of full and early summer classes.
- May 13, 2024 – Deadline to remove early / full summer meal plan.
Student Summer Residence Application Process
Applications open on February 29, 2024 at 10:00 am and close on March 29, 2024 at 4:00 pm. The application will be closed as of March 29, 2024, but will open again around the middle to end of April, at which point, students who did not previously apply may join the waitlist.

Step 1: Apply to residence through the Housing Portal by clicking the link below. You will require MC1 credentials to log into the portal.
Step 2: Once you have logged in, click on “Housing Application”.
Step 3: Select “2024 Student Summer Residence Application”.
Step 4: Pay a $50 non-refundable application fee. The $50 application fee can be paid by credit card (Visa, Mastercard or American Express, any Visa/Debit* cards) or by Interac. Please note that only customers of RBC Royal Bank, TD Bank, First Nations may use the Interac option.
Step 5: Be sure to complete and save your application by March 29, 2024.
