Welcome – and thank you for your interest in Residence for the 2017/18 academic year. Whether you’re currently in Residence, or living off campus, we are pleased that you are considering becoming a member of our community. While the majority of our students are in first year studies, we feel that the community benefits from a senior presence, and thus, a number of beds are reserved for returning students. Please read the information below before you log on to Carleton Central to submit your application:
Apply for residence online through Carleton Central accessed through My Carleton Portal. Please note that if you wish to apply for residence, you will be required to pay a $35 non-refundable application fee. The $35 application fee can be paid by credit card (Visa, Mastercard or American Express, or Visa/Debit cards*) or by Interac, also through Carleton Central.
*It appears that the Visa/Debit option is not an available option to make the application payment.
Applications open at 10:00 am, February 1st and close at 4:30 pm, February 15th. Applications will reopen in March, after the first round of offers is sent.
The 2017 – 2018 Residence Agreement will be updated in the Spring.
To apply for residence, please log on to Carleton Central and Select the Housing On-line Link from the Main Menu. After you complete the application fee, you will receive an email 48 hour later with a link and instructions on completing the Residence Information Form. We ask that you please wait for the email before completing the Residence Information Form in eRezLife in order for your status to be updated which will ensure that you receive the appropriate form to complete.
To be eligible, current Carleton University students are required to be enrolled in full-time studies. (Exceptions will be considered but are not guaranteed.) The Department of Housing and Residence Life Services considers that full-time status is achieved by completing and passing the equivalent of 3 full credits. (Full time status for graduate students is recognized by the University in a different manner).
Furthermore, as noted in the Residence Standards, should the Department of Housing and Residence Life Services consider that the behaviour and conduct of a resident has not been appropriate and within the spirit of beneficial community living, the resident may be refused participation in the processes of application to residence in a subsequent year, regardless of academic standing.
While residence offers are determined by lottery, priority for the returning spaces for the first round of offers in late February will be given to applicants who apply by the deadline of 4:30 pm, February 15th and who indicate on their Residence Information Form in the appropriate section that they qualify (will be verified) as:
A) Current 1st year undergraduate students who were admitted to their program for the 2016/17 academic year with a secondary school average of 90% or better, or
B) Undergraduate students who achieved a Grade Point Average of 10.0 or better in the equivalent of four full credits from their 2015/16 academic year, or
C) Current Carleton University graduate students for the 72 beds reserved for graduate students located on 6th Leeds.
Regardless of the above, all students must successfully pass the equivalent of three full credits in the 2016/17 academic year to be eligible to live in Residence in 2017/18 (graduate students must demonstrate full time status). Students who accept their offer will be required to respond with a deposit ($700, Visa, Mastercard or American Express or Debit as per information further down). If, upon the release of final marks, a student is unsuccessful in meeting the requirements, the offer will be revoked and deposit returned, less a $25 processing fee.
Please note that any outstanding Housing related fees must be paid in full prior to May 1, 2016 or the offer will be rescinded and deposit refunded, less a $25 service charge.
Please note: Leeds House beds are reserved for graduates, and undergraduate students who are entering third and fourth year studies only.
Frontenac House beds are reserved for students entering second year studies.
In addition to answering the personal profile questions on the Residence Information Form, you are given the opportunity to rank the residence buildings in which you would like to live in order of preference and advise us as to what type of room you prefer.
Students who will be entering 3rd or 4th year studies will have the opportunity to apply for Leeds only. Students who choose this option should understand that they will not be offered a room in another building at any time between the first round of offers and September residence registration. Therefore, only choose this option if you do not wish to consider a room offer in any other building.
As noted above, Frontenac House is reserved for second year students. However, should space be available and the list of second year eligible applicants exhausted, that space may be offered to senior students in 3rd or 4th year studies.
Applicants who accept a room assignment that is not their first preference (with the exception of those applying for a room in Leeds only) will be contacted over the summer if there is a reassignment to a room that falls within their first preference category. Every effort will be made to provide you with your first choice up until the day you move in!
Students who receive a room offer based on their first preference should note that the actual room number could change (but not building or room type) in order to meet specific requests of other students who receive a later offer, who asked to be placed with friends in suites, etc.
Room Offers / Waitlists
Offers and waitlist letters will be sent to your Carleton email account. Students successful in receiving an offer will be required to accept their offer online and pay the deposit of $700 by Visa, Mastercard, American Express, or through Interac on Carleton Central (BMO, RBC Royal Bank, Scotiabank or TD Canada Trust). If you choose the Interac option, you must pay through the on line acceptance process through Carleton Central and NOT directly from your bank account.
This process will continue throughout the summer as space become available. It is extremely important that you check this email account on a regular basis, as we will be using this to communicate with you.
All offers are conditional until final marks are reviewed to ensure that the applicant has met the eligibility requirements. Those who intend to accept their conditional offers will be required to respond with a deposit. If, upon the release of marks, a student is unsuccessful in meeting the requirements, the offer will be rescinded and the deposit refunded less a $25 service charge.
