Welcome – and thank you for your interest in Residence for the 2020/21 academic year!  Whether you’re currently in Residence, or living off campus, we are pleased that you are considering becoming a member of our community. While the majority of our students are in first year studies, we feel that the community benefits from a senior presence, and thus, a number of beds are reserved for returning students. Please read the information below before you log on to Carleton Central to submit your application:

Eligibility Requirements and Priority

Preference is given to students in full time studies. You must successfully pass the equivalent of three full credits in the 2019/20 academic year to be eligible to live in Residence in 2020/21. All offers made prior to the release of marks in May are conditional and may be revoked if the three credit requirement is not met. (Exceptions will be considered, but not guaranteed).

Furthermore, as noted in the Residence Standards, should the Department of Housing and Residence Life Services consider that the behaviour and conduct of a resident has not been appropriate and within the spirit of beneficial community living, the resident may be refused participation in the processes of application to residence in a subsequent year, regardless of academic standing.

Residence offers are determined by lottery. However, priority for the first round of offers will be given to applicants who apply by the deadline of 4:30 pm, February 14th and who indicate on their Residence Information Form in the appropriate section that they qualify (will be verified) as:

A) Current 1st year undergraduate students who were admitted to their program for the 2019/20 academic year with a secondary school average of 90% or better, or

B) Undergraduate students who achieved a  Carleton Grade Point Average of 10.0 or better in the equivalent of four full credits from their 2018/19 academic year, or

C) Current Carleton University graduate students for the 72 beds reserved for graduate students located on 6th Leeds.

Students who accept their offer will be required to pay a deposit of $700 through Carleton Central. If, upon the release of final marks, a student is unsuccessful in meeting the requirements, the offer will be revoked and deposit returned, less a $25 processing fee.

Please note that any outstanding Housing related fees must be paid in full prior to May 1, 2020 or the offer will be rescinded and deposit refunded, less a $25 service charge.

Room Assignments

Please note: Leeds House beds are reserved for graduates, and undergraduate students who are entering third and fourth year studies only.

Frontenac House beds are reserved for students entering second year studies.

In addition to answering the personal profile questions on the Residence Information Form, you are given the opportunity to rank the residence buildings in which you would like to live in order of preference and advise us as to what type of room you prefer.

Students who will be entering 3rd or 4th year studies will have the opportunity to apply for Leeds only. Students who choose this option should understand that they will not be offered a room in another building at any time between the first round of offers and September residence registration. Therefore, only choose this option if you do not wish to consider a room offer in any other building.

As noted above, Frontenac House is reserved for second year students. However, should space be available and the list of second year eligible applicants exhausted, that space may be offered to senior students in 3rd or 4th year studies.

Applicants who accept a room assignment that is not their first preference (with the exception of those applying for a room in Leeds only) will be contacted over the summer if there is a reassignment to a room that falls within their first preference category. Every effort will be made to provide you with your first choice up until the day you move in!

Students who receive a room offer based on their first preference should note that the actual room number could change (but not building or room type) in order to meet specific requests of other students who receive a later offer, who asked to be placed with friends in suites, etc.

Room Offers / Waitlists

Offers and waitlist letters will be sent to your Carleton email account. Students successful in receiving an offer will be required to accept their offer online and pay the deposit of $700 on Carleton Central. If you choose the Interac option, you must pay through the on line acceptance process through Carleton Central and NOT directly from your bank account.  More information about the waitlist can be found here.

This process will continue throughout the summer as space become available. It is extremely important that you check this email account on a regular basis, as we will be using this to communicate with you.

To apply for residence:

The first step would be to log on to My Carleton using your My Carleton One (MC1) username and password by clicking here.  Once logged in, go to Carleton Central and on the Main Menu, scroll down to Housing Services and click on Apply to Residence.  To apply, you are required to pay a $35 non-refundable application fee. The $35 application fee can be paid by credit card (Visa, Mastercard or American Express, any Visa/Debit* cards) or by Interac. Please note that only customers of RBC Royal Bank, TD Bank, First Nations may use the Interac option, through Carleton Central. *If you are using a Visa/Debit card, select the Pay with your Credit Card section on Carleton Central to make payment.

Applications open at 10:00 am, February 3rd and close at 4:30 pm, February 14th for the first round of offers.  Applications will reopen at the end of March.

After you complete the application fee, you will receive an email 48 hour later with a link and instructions on completing the Residence Information Form.
