Welcome to Carleton and to your new home in Lennox and Addington!
My name is Britt Scowen and I’m the Residence Manager for Lennox and Addington House for the upcoming year. As a Residence Manager, my role is to help you feel welcome in the community and to ensure that you are supported throughout your time in residence. You will meet your lovely Residence Fellow(s) during move-in or your first Community Check-in Meetings. Residence Fellows (RFs) are upper-year students who live in residence and help to support you with your university transition, cultivate community in our buildings, and provide you with some opportunities to connect with your peers and the rest of campus.
Here are some fun facts about Lennox and Addington:
-The building is named after a county in Eastern Ontario.
-It is the newest residence building (built in 2011).
-The building is home to 717 students, making it the largest population on campus!
-It is a traditional style building, where you can easily meet new people and foster relationships with others on the floor or in the building!
-There are some unique communities in the building, including a substance-free community, quiet community, upper year community, and all-female community.
-Each floor has a communal TV lounge and there are laundry facilities located in the basement.
If there is one thing you take away from this post, be sure to step outside your comfort zone this year and find your sense of community. University is a great time to get involved, make connections with so many different people, and truly figure out who you are! Even with COVID-19 and physical distancing in mind, there will be a wide variety of programs and events this year – countless opportunities to take that small step outside of your comfort zone and make new connections!
I’m looking forward to seeing you during move-in and orientation, and throughout the year. Please say hello when you see me around – I’ll be smiling even with a mask on!
Enjoy your summer, and welcome to the Carleton community!
