Hello Ravens! My name is Kristen Mendonca and I am the Residence Manager for Prescott and Leeds House for the 2020-2021 academic year! I am excited and eager for you to arrive to your home here at Carleton. I am one of five Residence Managers we have here at Carleton. I will oversee the building and be around the community in many different settings. I hope to meet as many of you as I can throughout your eight months here. Between Prescott and Leeds House, there are 18 Residence Fellows who live on your floor with you. They are there to support you and help make your eight months with us fun, memorable and safe.
This year, with COVID-19, your residence experience might look a little different. However, myself along with 18 wonderful student staff members will work hard to ensure that you feel a sense of community and like you have supports around you. Your health and safe are our priority. Many different measures will be put into place to ensure this and we ask that you do your part and abide by these new standards put in place.
Prescott House was opened in 2003 and is the only suite style building for first-year students. Suite style means that when you open the door to your suite, you will have a common living space that has a full-size fridge, microwave and some counter space. There will be another door that will lead you into either a double bedroom or a single bedroom (there is either two double bedrooms or four single rooms in a suite). Prescott House is home to almost 400 students on 6 floors, which includes two Residence Fellows per floor. Prescott also has a Quiet floor on the 7th floor and a Substance-Free floor on the 3rd floor to suit student needs and interests.
Leeds House was opened in 2001 and is specifically for 3rd year, 4th year and graduate students. It is a suite style building as well and has the same features as Prescott House, plus a stovetop in each suite. All of the bedrooms in Leeds House are single bedrooms, which means that you share a common space with either one other resident or three other residents but will always have your own bedroom. Leeds is home to almost 400 students on 6 floors, which includes one Residence Fellow per floor to support you. Leeds House also houses some classroom space on the first floor, which can be used for lectures and for events run by Residence Life throughout the year.
I am very excited for all of you, our new Ravens, to move into your new homes in September! This is your first official welcome to the start of an amazing year. I look forward to meeting as many of you as I can throughout your time here in Residence. I want to wish you the best of luck as you either start or continue your academic journey here at Carleton University. I hope you enjoy the rest of your summer! See you in September!
Living in Residence is a great experience, whether you are in coming into your first year at Carleton or you have been here with us for two or three years.
