I love the way that she has organized the modules and enjoy the learning activities each week. She is very approachable, personable and her passion for the subject motivates students to work harder and further connect with the course material.

•Ayca Guler-Edwards (First Year Seminar): She is incredibly helpful and courteous. She is an engaging teacher and makes sure to keep everyone interesting even for the material that I would unusually enjoy. On our first day in our class she had immediately remembered everyone’s name which for a first year class was quite amazing seeing as I came to university being told that none of my professors would care about me at all however I feel as if Ayca cares about everyone and does her best to ensure that the whole class is succeeding and feels extremely comfortable within and outside of our class. Although the material of the course is not something I would usually be interested in I find myself quite interested and excited to go to her seminar. Overall she is an amazing teacher and I wish she could teach me for my remaining years of university as well.

•Benjamin Woo (Communications and Media Studies): I love the examples and his way of teaching the class, great prof.

•Bob Burk (Chemistry): They are the best. He’s really funny, honest, and encouraging of his students. You can tell he wants to be there and loves teaching, and it makes me want to actually learn! He also puts a lot of effort into making time for his students to come for help and is super helpful if you take advantage of these opportunities. He always has little stories and jokes that relate to the material that give a much needed laugh. He’s always willing to help and wants everyone to do well. He provides so many resources to help you succeed. Great Prof, great person. Bob is my favourite faculty member as I feel that he truly cares about who he is teaching and what he is teaching. I enjoy his class as I find to the most part, that the concepts are well explained and he’s funny. Best part is when he gets upset at us for clapping or gives us advice on when things are stupid like waxing your car. Overall, excellent teacher and man. Bob is really good at teaching, has a great sense of humour and does cool experiments! Because Bobby B is the science G… and he speed skates. Made lectures interesting, great with extra help, and very approachable and easy to talk to.

He posts study guides and success tips and he’s really doing it for the students and the future. He doesn’t show up just to wait at the clock to punch out. He brings life to the classroom, with a clearly exuberant passion both for psychology and for teaching. He cares about his students and does every single thing in his power to make the class enjoyable and informative, as well putting every ounce of effort possible into providing learning materials to produce the best result in his students, not for the sake of grades but for the sake of knowledge. I’ve had many different professors before and I’ve never met someone so wanting of his students to succeed. He’s enjoyable to listen and learn from and I’m so thankful to have him as a professor. He makes classes so interesting and the way he gets excited while teaching makes myself be excited about learning. The only teacher that makes me want to go to class at 8am and can not only keep me awake but he keeps me interested and entertained all class. I don’t know how he does it but he’s a real one. MVP. Makes class fun, teaches the course outstandingly, isn’t confusing during lectures. I couldn’t have asked for a better professor to introduce me to Carleton, he taught my first lecture. They know how to make a Monday morning 8:30 class enjoyable :). Mr. Motz is my favourite faculty member because he makes psychology classes so interesting. He uses examples that students can relate to/understand well, he breaks topics down into smaller components so they seem less daunting, and the best part is that he uses other forms of media to present ideas (such as commercials, experiments, photos, videos, speaking, reading. Etc.). He is always engaged with his students during the lecture and makes his lectures very interesting! He is also always available for us when we need help outside of class and provides numerous tips/resources to help us throughout the class. Chris clearly works hard to make his class engaging and educating for his students. He goes out of his way to create notes, study guides, mock exams, and funny examples to help us understand and remember the concepts. I love his subtle jokes and his not-so-subtle dramatics; they really help me stay engaged and make connections from the lesson to the real world. He even gives weekly tips for success and always stays after class to answer specific questions. I don’t have a single friend who would even consider skipping Chris’ class, and his students’ attendance reflects it. I’m super grateful to have Chris as a prof and he’s 100% my favourite faculty member! They make class interesting & I enjoying learning from them.

•Christopher McGrath (Philosophy): He cares, he makes class interesting, really knows his stuff. Great guy, highly recommend, 10/10 would take again. He genuinely cares for his students. He engages in interesting conversations that relate to us. He is humorous, while also maintaining a level of professionalism.

•Danay Novoa (Psychology): Compassionate, funny and enthusiastic. Danay is a great professor because she captures my attention during lectures. She explains her material in an easy to understand language, makes light-hearted jokes, implements memes in her PowerPoint slides, and tries to be interactive with us. Danay is awkwardly quirky but that’s why we like her- she brought Halloween candy during class on Oct 31st and she laughs at her jokes. I genuinely look forward to attending her lecture and I feel she is open, friendly, and approachable. If my major was Psych, I would try my best to have her as a prof for as many classes as I can. On top of being an enjoyable teacher to listen to, I find Danay cares about our success as she frequently reminds us of study tips, group study opportunities, study discussions, and her willingness to see us during her respective office hours. She is accommodating and charming. I nominate Danay Novoa. She is really engaging and makes the content easy to understand and remember. She also makes an effort to know her students, by name, and makes the lecture an overall amazing experience. She is also really funny and doesn’t make things too serious while at the same time stresses the importance of keeping up with the work and pushing us to be our best!

•Daniel Burnside (Biology): The prof who teaches the BIOL2201 I’m currently taking wasn’t able to make it to our class because he was held up in Toronto that day. Professor Daniel Burnside taught the class using someone else’s slides and only had an hour to review the textbook material before coming and teaching a 3 hour lecture to somebody else’s class; but he taught the material clearly and effectively and even provided real world examples for the topics we covered and was all-around a really great professor. I hope my nomination still counts even though he only taught a single lecture in my class because in my opinion, he is a really fantastic member of the faculty.

•Danielle Kinsey (History): Professor Kinsey has your back 1000% by perfectly blending academics and university resources like a superb cake. Her assignments are helpful for the rest of your academic career such as helping you know how to access primary sources. Professor Kinsey takes the time to sit and chat with you during her office hours to make sure that you feel supported. Professor Kinsey deserves to be recognized for all of the hard effort that she puts forth for her students and in her courses to ensure that students get valuable learning experience from their studies. Overall, Professor Kinsey is the best, even better than Oprah and is a true blessing to have in the life of her students!!! Dr. Kinsey is the best professor at Carleton.  She genuinely cares about her students and when you have questions or go to her office hours she listens and helps you.  She is hilarious and makes her lectures so cool and interesting and fun.  She makes me want to go to class and I looked forward to her lectures every week!  Dr. Kinsey also made the transition to university much easier by providing a lot of resources for academics and mental health.  She is the best professor I have ever had and made me confident in my choice to pursue history as my degree.  Dr. Kinsey is my favourite, and as one of my friends says “better than Oprah”.  Kinsey=10/10, 5 stars and one of my favourite people.  She is a great historian and I hope I can be at least half as great as she is.  :)

•David Hugill (Geography): David has a skill for teaching that can’t be taught. In his lectures there’s a natural presence of humor and openness that creates a unique learning environment from my other classes. He’s created a connection with his students by doing simple actions; giving us 5 minute breaks, playing music before class, or building on jokes from previous classes. He has excellent taste in people sleeping on farm animals and always manages to turn a lecture into a conversation. He will easily be remembered in my later years and I have no doubt is my favorite Professor.

•Deborah Conners (Sociology & Anthropology): You can tell that Deborah wants her students to be successful and be engaged, active learners. She is incredibly open to feedback and always willing to adapt to better serve her students. She has clear, realistic expectations. She consistently refers me to opportunities in history and my field of interests when she sees them. She has acted as my reference multiple times and encourages me to pursue opportunities out of my comfort zone. She has allowed my academic and intellectual skills in history to grow.

Also, there seems to be good communication between her and the TAs which makes everything that much better.

•Glenn McRae (Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering): From my 2 years of school, Professor Mcrae teaches the things in class that we would never learn in the other engineering class such as the ethics of an engineer, the purpose why we get the iron ring and other stories on becoming a better engineer. He bops. Glenn McRae is a very knowledgeable man who puts every effort into producing interesting lectures, which is tough, considering how dull most of the content is. He puts emphasis on the engineering culture and how we should be proud that we are entering a prestigious profession.

•Gregory MacIsaac (Humanities): Professor MacIssac is a very dedicated teacher. He is very strict and has high exceptions as to the level of work required.  However, he is also very kind and understanding, patient, and tries his best to make the content interesting. In his office hours, he is attentive and listens to what I have to say without interrupting or correcting me if I make a mistake. He constantly encourages us to come and talk to him if we have any problems, relating to the course or life in general. He genuinely cares about his students, and doesn’t hesitate to ask how our day/weekend was. She makes my second year journalism class much more enjoyable and has helped shaped me into becoming a better writer. •Manuella Vincter (Physics): Manuella is my favourite professor because she teaches with enthusiasm and passion. My physics class with her is at 8:35 in the morning, which is very earlier for me so I feel super tired groggy. But with her positive energy and love for physics, it wakes me up in the morning and makes physics at 8:35 am enjoyable. •Matthew Hawkins (Anthropology): Anthro was my very first lecture for university and Dr. Hawkins is the reason why I have not dropped the course. I decided to take the course as one of my electives hoping it would be interesting. Every lecture, Dr. Hawkins is able to relate his field work to the general topics we discuss in class and I find it interesting to hear about his own experiences in South America. The little things he does that I appreciate includes him walking around the theatre to engage with the class as a whole. He relates the topics that we learn about to modern day things that we students can understand. Unlike most professors, Mr Tabone engages with his students on a one-to-one basis. He is patient and encourages us to try even if we are unsure of how to pronounce something. He is very well knowledgeable in his field and knows how to apply chemistry to really life and make it fun. He also makes good connections with students and gives lots of opportunities for success. Bob is my favourite faculty member because he is an excellent teacher and he is always willing to help his students. Bob is the type of professor that will go the extra mile to help his student because all he wants is for his students to do well. He is also very real and respectable to his students. I find that some professors are very stuck up and because of that they talk down to their students, making them feel intimidated or inferior. Which is very discouraging, and it makes you not want to go to class because you don’t want to be in such a negative environment. In Bob’s class it is not like that. He treats and talks to his students as equals. He interacts with his students by asking them questions, making jokes and by having real conversations with them. By doing this he creates a positive and safe environment for his students, which makes each and every one of them to enjoy and want to be at his lectures. Bob is a relatable, respectable and funny professor that makes learning chemistry fun.

•Robert Collier (Computer Science): He always takes the time to flowchart out the problem and explain the solution in simple terms. He really made the class fun and we learned new stuff even when I knew the things.

•Roger Connah (Architecture): I haven’t heard of a single architectural student who doesn’t enjoy his presence or his classes. He is the favourite professor of many architectural students and a professor that doesn’t shy away from helping his students.  His class fits very well within my personal interests and style.

•Roy Hanes (Social Work): Always willing to meet me for appointments, answer questions, and provide support and extensions to deadlines

•Samah Sabra (Professional Development Officer, Office of Quality Initiatives): Overall very easy to approach about subjects and very friendly. Keeps the class very interesting and always tries to get everyone included in a conversation. Tried her hardest to ensure that there is some interaction going on in the class.

•Sebastien Malette (Law and Legal Studies): Always determined to connect with the students and make his class fun. He’s funny always cracking jokes during class and very engaging because he knows so much about his field, makes learning enjoyable.

•Shazia Sadaf (Arts & Social Science): She is kind and funny. She is my favourite faculty member because her lectures are always interesting and she makes sure to explain every important concept thoroughly with examples. She is very well spoken and is very approachable. She not only explains concepts and ideas thoroughly but she also creates a discussion in class, despite the number of students there. Doing this makes it easier to understand because we are not only able to ask questions more personally, but we are able to see other students’ perspectives on the content we are learning. Dr. Sadaf also provided extremely helpful insights when I had asked her about her thought on my ideas for my midterm essay, while she also gave me examples on how to write it, and how to lay out my content. Overall, Dr. Sadaf is an incredible professor whom I feel very lucky to know.

•Siobhain Calkin (English): She makes British literature very exciting to read about. Although this is a lecture course, Professor Calkin makes this class feels like a seminar because of the discussions we have about the readings. This makes the course content easier to digest.

•T. Brettel Dawson (Law and Legal Studies): They put in so much effort into lectures and teaching. Memorizes every person’s name in class.

•Tonya Davidson (Sociology & Anthropology): She supports the student association i am apart of (SASA- Sociology Anthropology Student Association) and makes announcements in class to promote us, adds tweets and news updates on CULearn related to the topics in class, sends emails out about events related to class and tries to involve the students with the faculty through activities like their new “lunch date with your prof” idea. Tonya has the best energy in class and makes her lectures really engaging and interesting. Tonya is very passionate about what she teaches, a trait most professors lack. Tonya is a shining star and deserves all the recognition

•Vincent Kazmierski (Law and Legal Studies): He made the class enjoyable because he cared about the subject matter and the success of his students which motivated me to try harder

•Wayne Horn (Mathematics): This prof is a down to earth good guy. Being in his class he allowed to me to transition easily into university and his lessons never disappoint. He is super thorough in his teaching and he does his best to create face to face connections with his students. He’s super helpful and nice, makes hard subjects easy to learn, and cracks jokes a lot, easing the tension in the class. He does a very good job explaining concepts in lectures and making sure everyone understand concepts. He also very obviously genuinely cares about his students and their well-being and success. He offers a lot of resources to his students to provide extra practice and help. He’s just a nice and approachable guy and his classes are interesting, and he’s good at his job.

•William Flynn (Sociology & Anthropology): Professor Flynn is my favourite faculty member because he engages his students in the lecture. He doesn’t just spit information at us, he asks questions and hears the options of other students and integrates that into his lectures. Another reason is because he cares about his students, when my TA was absent twice during the semester, will stepped in to be there for our discussion group both times to ensure we get all the help we need. other discussion groups I’m in a had to miss because the TA was not present and no one filled in for them. Will is my favourite faculty member because you can tell he genuinely wants us to succeed and engages with his students. :). He is very good at conveying information and helping us prepare with exams and assignments. Always keeps class interesting, very entertaining and easy to pay attention to.

•WonJoon Chung (Industrial Design): Makes studio a great environment that is not stressful yet we are still motivated to do our best. Has great insights about life and design that make his lectures very interesting and enjoyable.

•Zachary Patterson (Neuroscience): I learn so much in the course. He makes ninety minute lectures easy to listen to. I always walk away understanding everything because he’s great with answering questions. He’s approachable, relatable and easy to listen to. Thank you for a great first year course! He actually cares about the class and teaches with genuine enthusiasm
