Perk of attending post secondary school; awesome extended breaks like the winter break that we are about to get started. Two weeks, at least, where you don’t have to think about readings, assignments or having to get up early for those 8:30 lectures. Knowing just how action packed these breaks can be, we thought we would put together a list of things that will help you make the most of your break.
- Spend times with friends that you haven’t seen in a while
If you are like me, Ottawa isn’t home and you have some friends back home who you haven’t seen in a while. For most students, after high school, friend groups kind of go their separate ways to college, university or work, making the holidays the perfect time to get together with everyone. That first night back home is always a great time, when everyone gets together for some fun – I’m excited just writing about it. So on your next study break, take a second and text your friends back home and get something set up for the holiday break!
- Start your applications to summer work
More so than ever, the application process for summer internships and positions is extremely competitive. Students from around the province, country and world are now competing for highly coveted positions in all industries. With this in mind there is no time like the present to get going on your applications so that come the summer you can work the summer job of your dreams.
- Take a trip
Pack up a car with a couple friends and hit the road for a night or two. Whether it is a short trip or a long road trip, the holiday break is a great time to take a trip with friends. If you are into skiing, snowboarding or other winter activities Ontario, Upstate New York and Quebec are all full of places to get outdoors.
- Seasonal Job
Did the first semester get the best of your wallet? You and me both! Getting a seasonal job when you are home for the holidays is a great chance to pad your bank account. Almost all retailers are looking for people to help out over the holiday season and the hours are usually plentiful!
Armed with these tips, we hope that you are able to make the most of your holiday break. Don’t forget to take some time to rest and recharge, exam season can be a stressful time and everyone deserves some rest before the second semester begins.
