Abdulwahid Mazrui (Linguistics and Language Studies): Enjoyable class environment, makes learning the language interesting and fun.
Abdulghany Mohamed (Business): He is very helpful and understanding. Always gives us 100% of his efforts and if we ask a question he doesn’t know the answer to, he will bring in to us next class to make sure we get a full answer.
Andrew Robinson (Physics): Taught a content intensive course in the best manner possible. Always prepared to help students when they need it; Very cool guy.
Andrew Runka (Computer Science): Professor Runka is a hilarious, laid-back professor. He seems like he is eager to help students be successful.
Angelo Mingarelli (Math): Professor Mingarelli seems like an awesome guy and he tells great stories. He also seems to have done a lot in his life; He is very good at explaining concepts and a very entertaining lecturer! My favourite Prof; He seems very happy to teach us and very funny. He makes the lectures very interesting and enjoyable. I never want to miss a lecture or else I feel I will miss out on funny moments or stories; Professor Mingarelli is my favourite faculty member because he tells great stories. He is respectable because he teaches very well, with comprehensive methods, and shares his insight with everyone. He always gives the class a laugh with his stories from his past though, and it’s always a relief to be able to laugh with your professor about his own experiences.
Ann Kabo (French): She teaches well and it has really built my knowledge in French and also she gives great words of encouragement that pushes you even when you think you cannot make it.
Anne Bowker (Psychology): Kind, understanding, great and engaging teacher!
Benjamin Woo (Public Affairs): He has an amazing teaching skills, he is also very funny and active.
Berhnard Leisle (Public Affairs): funny, passionate about his field.
Bob Burke (Chemistry): Really nice, hilarious, helpful, great teacher; He is great at explaining difficult concepts and his lectures are very interactive; Gives fair exams. Post slides before class. On time for class. Opportunity for bonus. Passion for what he teaches. Conducts experiments for better understanding and amusement. Very approachable; He gives great lectures, easy to understand, explains everything extremely well and gives awesome demonstrations.
Brandon Fodden (Math): He is a great professor. He is always there for his students; Genuinely cares; Friendly and easily approachable.
Bruce Tsuji (Psychology): He is very engaging and funny! He is good at making the classes interesting; He is enthusiastic about teaching, he answers questions, well explained, very outgoing & makes the lectures fun.
Candace Sobers (Global and International Studies): She teaches the class in a way that makes even the most dense material interesting, and is always happy to have a discussion after class about the material addressed, and any other content that may come up; Professor Sobers is very down to earth, funny and caring. She expects a lot from us but also motivates us and gives us the proper tools to complete assignments. She is very knowledgeable and her lectures are always interesting; Her teaching skills, she has an approachable manner to her and she allows us to apply our thinking and express our opinions in class, she allows everyone a strong chance to succeed. Also very down to earth funny person, talks to students as they are their equals! She is one of the main reasons I love Carleton so much!
Carolyn Ramzy (Music): She’s fun, charismatic, and easy to relate to. The classes she teaches are interesting because she is so passionate about the subject. She makes me want to be a better student and a better musician.
Charles Darby (Public Affairs): He taught my course in a very engaging manner that was friendly and respectful. He was also funny and very thoughtful.
Christopher Dornan (Journalism): Chris Dornan is my favourite because he makes class extremely interesting. He talks about things that the class is interested in and is willing to get engaged in; Engages the students, relatable examples, makes learning the history of communications interesting; Professor Dornan has a great understanding of the course material and teaches in an way that is both entertaining and relatable. He presents his ideas in an organized, comprehensive fashion. He is clearly invested in his students’ success.
Christopher Motz (Psychology): He is constantly engaged with his students, seems to genuinely like teaching and the subject that he teaches, and puts in effort above and beyond expectation to ensure student success; Makes class interesting and intriguing, he is always there for help and every class he seems to make everyone laugh. He is very understanding and is the best professor I’ve encountered yet; He is a light-hearted instructor who doesn’t take himself too seriously. He’s lenient and very caring and is also funny at times. His class is one of the easier ones to follow and the assignments and mid-terms aren’t *entirely* soul crushing. And speaking of mid-terms ooooohhh boy lemme tell ya this guy goes out of his way to make sure you don’t flunk his class which is immensely appreciated when you’re swamped with work(or you have a very bad habit of procrastinating). I wish this man a long and happy life because quite frankly from all my experiences to date in his class, he deserves it. Also he can be a bit of a dork but it is rather charming. All in all a cooooool duuuuude. Uni life would be amazing with more people like good ol’ Chris around; Very helpful, posts many resources on CuLearn, has engaging lectures, funny, easy to approach, grades quickly, very good at explaining and giving examples, interactive lectures, answers e-mails quickly & e-mails us reminders. I enjoy going to his classes; Chris teaches the course material in an honest, funny, and insightful way. It is clear that he loves what he teaches, is passionate about teaching, and actually wants his students to succeed; Best teacher.
Claire Owen (Linguistics): Prof. Owen engages our sign language class every single day despite having a no-talking policy in class. We all respect her as a professor, and look forward to coming to class to learn from her. She has made this class so enjoyable for me that I have decided to minor in ASL, and perhaps even become an interpreter when I’m finished with my bachelor!
David Schroeder (Music): Kind, caring, and funny. The Music program here at Carleton is full of great people, but Dr. Schroeder is really the best. His character can be best described in a knock knock joke he told in class – “Knock knock” “Who’s there?” “Your friend Dr. Schroeder, and he always will be.”
Debra Graham (Women’s and Gender Studies): She’s engaging, funny, inclusive, supportive and caring!
Emily Gray (Business): She is very friendly and approachable, super organized and gives awesome random health tips; She’s always so happy and nice to everyone. Very helpful at answering questions. Gives us health tips; She tries to get to know her students; Energetic, fun, make class go by fast; She is always in a good mood, seems to really love her job and accounting and really have a passion for learning/teaching. Also outside of school she does yoga and is fit and that is awesome.
Henry Saari (Engineering): Does a good job of covering a sometimes dry curriculum. Engages the students and knows his stuff.
Iain Lambert (Biology): Very engaged and sees eye-to-eye with students; very enthusiastic towards the course content.
Ianoul Anatoli (Biochemistry): His simplicity, teaching style and easy going happy nature.

Jim Davies (Cognitive Science): He engages with his students through technology and often poses questions to the class which goes against their norms allowing them to re-evaluate their own perceptions. That is what I would consider an “enlightening experience”, I wake up to go to a 8am class willingly because I truly feel like I learned something after I have left, that something which is collectively added to the pile of wisdom… better to start young, I still have awhile to go.
John Gales (Engineering): They care about actually teaching things that will come in useful and they reward class participation.
John Howatt (Computer Science): I took his class without any prior knowledge to computer science and he did an amazing job teaching me how to understand, and then how to code things on my own. By the end of COMP 1005 I was creating a game from scratch just from the knowledge he gave me. However this is not why he is my favourite professor. John Howatt not only taught his class, but he was available 24/7 for help through email and/or office hours. If there was anything someone didn’t understand, he would respond almost immediately to an email no matter the time of day. His teaching style was ideal for a course like the ones I took, since the work assigned was directly related to what was done in class or tutorials, but with a twist or added difficulty. The tutorials were written as if they were assignment questions, only we had the chance to ask for help then and there, and the marking for tutorials was ideal, as one mark was given for attending, and the other was given for an honest effort in finishing all of the questions correctly. He was extremely nice and understanding with any questions about assignments, however strict on deadlines. I believe with a combination of all of the things mentioned, John Howatt should be noticed for his outstanding ability to engage his students in Computer Science; Entertaining. Explains difficult course material in an easy to understand format. Helpful. Very knowledgable. Always ready to teach.
Kathleen Van Benthem (Cognitive Science): Through the seminar setting she carries an advantage over many professors in a lecture setting. The advantage is only there for those who use it and she does with brute force. Rather than memorizing information to be later tested on, her class is engaging and encourages students to think critically with the course material presented opposed to simply recycling information.
Kevin Gildea (English): I don’t feel like a number in his class. He is easy to speak to and I know that he is passionate in what he teaches; He is charismatic and pushes his students to search for more within their writing. His hilarious lessons allow me to better grasp the grammar and concepts that I would normally have trouble understanding. He relates to his students by divulging pieces of his personal life to us, and I cannot be happier that I have the opportunity to learn under him in my first year at Carleton.

Laura Banducci (Greek and Roman Studies): She makes the course fun to learn and I never want to miss a class; She’s very funny and always keep class really interesting and gives us ways to remember all the grammar rules of Latin.
Laurie Hamilton (Music): Supportive, passionate.
Lev Blumenfeld (Linguistics): Because he spends time getting to know students names and caring about the individual rather than just seeing them as faceless student numbers.
Mahmoud Erfani (French): It is obvious he enjoys what he teaches and the students he teachers. He has made a good effort to get to know us as people and seems to really care about us a individuals. His class is also very fun!
Mark Blenkinsop (Math): He is willing to go at a pace that is ideal for the students and he creates a comfortable workplace with his humor and forward thinking; Extremely interactive, engages with students, clear answers and solutions to problems, good advice, understands students; Mark takes extra steps to ensure his students understand the material they are learning and clearly communicates his expectations of the class. He makes time to help students with accommodations and has clear, enjoyable lectures; Explains info thoroughly, presentations are interesting and engaging; He makes class enjoyable and really interacts with the class and makes sure that everyone understands the concepts; Really engaging, adds humour (%90 of time effectively), keeps the class informal for a easy learning environment. Notes applications to material learned. Nice helpful guy who cares about the students; He is incredibly engaging and ver focused on student success. At the same time he understands how stressful first year math courses can be and always takes time to lighten the mood. Simply an amazing professor; Loves what he teaches, it made me develop an interest in math when I never liked it; They make this class fun even though it is a boring topic.
Matthew J. Bellamy (History): Passionate, engaging, accommodating; Professor Bellamy makes every lecture fascinating with his energy and passion for the topic at hand. It is always the best part of the week, going to his lecture.
Melanie Adrian (Law): Very well rounded, approachable, and inspiring.
Merlyna Lim (Communications): She’s a really great teacher who realizes the potential her students have to do more!
Michael Runtz (Biology): Funny, passionate about nature, joyful, enthusiastic, easy to understand.
Mohammad Sadeghi (Math): Huge passion and excitement for what he teaches.
Mohammed Reza Reza (Math): Very funny and good teacher.
Nalini Ramlakhan (Philosophy): Because she’s a wonderful teacher and works hard to make sure her students know she is always available. She’s caring and very compassionate about her class and it’s awesome.
Nandini Sarma (French): Nandini is my favourite faculty member because she truly understands the needs of the students and builds her course around them. She has a workload which engages you in the class without being stressful or overwhelming and truly wants you to love French like she does.
Neil Haesler (Journalism): He was the only professor who candidly talked to us after the Jian Ghomeshi scandal. He also told us exactly what we needed to know to do good journalism.
Paul Adams (Journalism): Professor Adams is excellent at providing feedback. His stern, yet corrective approach is nothing less than applaudable. I will really like to take more classes with this man. He’s an excellent teacher!
Paul Kariouk (Architecture): He taught me the most I’ve learnt from any other studio professor. He was always upfront and real with me, so he didn’t sugar coat things to make me feel better about my studio projects. Also, his bear-dog Charlemagne.
Peter Coffman (Art History): Prof. Coffman is a very engaging lecturer as well as seems very passionate and interested in the subject matter.
Ramy Gohary (Engineering): His enthusiasm and vast knowledge of the subject has so far made for an awe-inspiring first semester. He knows his material and truly wants everybody to succeed to their fullest potential.
Randall Germain (Political Science): Very involved and enthusiastic professor who always makes time for students and passes on his enjoyment of subject matter to all of his classes.
Rebecca Bromwich (Law): Rebecca is always ensuring that students understand what she is teaching and she uses fun and interesting ways to make sure that students aren’t getting bored. She provides interesting examples and her teaching style is good to watch online as well.
Robert Collier (Computer Science)
Roger Mesley (Art History): Professor Mesley is very knowledgeable and passionate about his areas of expertise. He is an engaging speaker who connects with students easily. His lectures were always a pleasure to attend.
Sarah Brouillette (English): She is enthusiastic about the subject and keeps class interesting.
Sasaki Mami (SLALS): Sasaki-sensei is always extremely enthusiastic and happy to help everyone in the class. She makes class exciting and enjoyable and she remembers all the little details her students tell her about themselves – from whether or not they like metal music to their birth date! It makes learning so much more thrilling to be in a class with Sasaki-sensei!
Shannon Butler (Commerce): They teach the course material well and understand what students need to succeed.
Shannon Dempsey (Law): The amount of effort she puts in to get the class engaged. First day she had us make name places for getting to know each other, and now she can almost call upon anyone in the tutorial. We also recently had a paper due, and she opened the opportunity for anyone to submit an outline for her to go over. She took time out of her reading week vacation to do extra work, so we as a class could do better.
Stephen Tasson (Law): He makes lectures interesting, funny, bit also serious. He makes the class easy to engage in.
Stephen White (Political Science): Stephen White is an engaging professor who can tell is really passionate about what he teaches. I like that he caters to different learning styles through his use of presentation-style lectures, as well as showing video clips, using pictures, and analogies. I find his lectures fascinating, and I always feel excited to go.
Steve Fields (Industrial Design): Amazingly dedicated to the subject, students and work. Always out there and helpful.
Tamara Kotar (Political Science): Tamara set out the course in a way that challenged and educated me on the history of politics. She made the class more interesting by setting part of the grades to allow us to engage in social media and share news articles or videos that are related to the course. In addition she showed how passionate she was in teaching and in helping me succeed in the course by being quick to respond to emails,answering questions that I had about assignments after class and posting job opportunities on her Twitter account. Tamar is my favorite faculty members as she has enabled me to be an independent researcher and to use social media as educational tool.
Trevor Purvis (Law): Trevor is a challenging, knowledgeable, approachable, caring, and humorous professor. He makes a 3-hour Thursday night lecture feel like less of a burden and more of a treat. I cannot convey through my words the passion he conveys through his every week. Trevor is simply an inspiration, and I am very lucky to be in one of his classes.
Trudy O’Brien (ALDS): She is nice and always really patient. She also tries to help us student andis always willing to regrade our assignments and give us feedback so we do better in the future.
Yvonne Aleksandra Bennett (History): Warm and welcoming to all students. makes effort to learn names. continuous communication with students.
