When I say ‘Lennox’ you say ‘Addington’:
Shout out to all my Lennox and Addington-ers! Are you ready for an awesome year at Carleton University?! I am Residence Manager Hilary and I am here to welcome you to your new home away from home at Lennox and Addington House (LX). Residence is a great place to learn, grow and meet some of your future BFFs, and along with your Residence Fellows (RF), I’m here to help you do just that.
Did you know that this building is named after the county in Eastern Ontario? As a matter of fact, all of our residence buildings are named after these counties! What makes LX unique is that it is the newest residence building here at Carleton University. Built in 2011, this 10 story building is home to 717 students making it the largest population under one roof. Its traditional style allows students to easily meet new people and foster positive relationships as a floor community. Our house colour is light blue so be sure to wear it with pride to all the res-wide programs. LX also offers four special interest floors for students looking to share a community experience with students of similar interests. On 5th floor we have the all-female floor, 8th is alcohol free, 9th is a quiet floor, and 10th is dedicated to upper year students. Each floor has a communal TV lounge located across from the elevators and building laundry facilities are located in the basement. The floors are divided into two wings, each with a key pad accessed by your campus card and personal pin for added safety. Every floor is staffed with RFs that are here to help facilitate learning outside of the classroom, cultivate student leaders, and assist you in organizing your own floor initiatives. That’s right! We are encouraging you to facilitate floor engagement programs! This can be anything from monthly birthday celebrations, study groups, social committees, and much more. I cannot wait to see what amazing things each and every one of you will bring to the LX community!
Now that you’ve gotten to know a little about the building let me tell you about me. Being a Residence Manager at Carleton is by far one of the best jobs in the world. In particular, my favourite part is having the opportunity to intentionally interact and engage with you, the student body. One of the ways I do this is by walking through the building with the RFs doing tours. Please say ‘hi’ as I would love to check in and have our very own Flock Talk. If playing pool or board games is your thing, check out the best hangout spot in residence; The Raven’s Roost! Perhaps we could chat about a program idea you have over a game of DDR. We’ve got some great Res-Wide programs planned this year and I’m excited to see you at them rocking your LX pride!
Find me on Twitter and see more of all the great things we do here at @CarletonRes!
I cannot wait to meet you all on move-in day!
